I have always been obsessed with cleanliness and organization. Even before children it was important for me to have a clean home.
When we moved from a 1000 sq ft condo to a home with more than 3000 square feet it became overwhelming to keep up with all the cleaning, especially the dusting. We live in Arizona so the dust can get pretty out of control during Monsoon season. And now between working a full-time 9 to 5, my family — basically all the things going on in my world I would find cleaning extremely difficult to stay on top of.
So, two years ago we decided to hire a cleaning company to do a deep clean in all the rooms of our house.
At first it was once a month but we needed to reduce it due to financial constraints. Our housekeepers (a mother-daughter duo) are amazing. They come out about 6 to 7 months out of the year. They do a basic clean which consists of vacuuming, mopping, cleaning counter-tops and bathrooms. And when it’s when needed we will have them do deep clean which includes our baseboards, bathrooms, ceiling fans, blinds, floors, walls etc. (truly the whole 9 yards). They have never disappointed us and do an amazing job!
As working parents it’s difficult trying to keep on top of everything, let alone keep our baseboards clean. But the truth is, having a clean house allows us to focus on other things; things that bring us joy or it can provide us with more time for some much needed relaxation.
That’s my secret; we maintain a clean home and keep I keep my sanity by outsourcing this task that brings me little joy. Don’t get me wrong I love a clean home but it’s better for my sanity to have someone else be responsible for that. I delegate the things I can’t get to or simply don’t want to do. And I never feel guilty about it. If I didn’t delegate and hire outside help it wouldn’t be healthy for me or for my family.
Instead of thinking to myself “who am I to have a housekeeper, mom’s helper, spa day, etc.?”
I think positively and feel grateful that I’ve been able to take things off of my plate. I am able to get more of the things on my list done and ultimately hiring housekeepers freed up my time to create things and enjoy time with my family which I cherish.
We would love to hear about the things you either delegate or would like to delegate to make your life more manageable.
